Advantages of big screen phones
The trend for bigger phones started with the introduction of Samsung's Galaxy Note-1 with a 5.3 inch screen, released at the Berlin IFA Show in 2011. Most cell phone pundits and Gurus made fun of the Galaxy Note-1 and said people will never use such a big phone for various reasons like "they will look silly talking to such a huge phone" and "No pockets can fit such a big phone", "a phone meant for elephants!", etc. But they were all proven wrong
The Samsung Note phones went on to become a best seller and all other phone manufacturers copied the Samsung Galaxy Note phones by making phones with screens of 5.5 inches and more.
These large phones are now called 'Phablets', a cross between a phone and a tablet. Even Apple had to follow the wild success of the big phones by introducing their own 5.5 inch screen, the Apple 6+. This in spite of Steve Jobs 2010 remark that 'making a phone so big that you can't get your hand around it helps, but no one's going to buy it'.
So why do people love phones with big screens. The reason is obvious, because you can see bigger pictures and read easier with bigger fonts. Typing is easier with less chance of making mistakes, because the buttons are bigger and there is space between the buttons. The one problem with big phones is that it is not easy to carry it around. It may not fit in normal pockets, but this inconvenience is not bothering millions of people who buy the big phones now.
Why big screen phones are better
The main advantages with big screen phones are:
- Easier to read, view pictures much bigger and clearer
- Bigger buttons and wider space between buttons make typing easier and less prone to mistakes.
- Big phones have bigger batteries to make the phone last longer between charges
- The speakers in big phones are bigger and they are louder and sound much better
- Watching videos on big screen phones with loud and clear sound is a pleasure
- Playing games on bigger phone screens is much better
- Reading e-Books on a big phone screen is much better than trying to read on a smaller screen
- Possible to have two or more windows open for simultaneous viewing on a large phone screen
- Even though one hand operation on big phones may not be possible, but with two hands it easier to hold a large phone to type with both thumbs or holding phone in one hand and typing much faster with the other hand.
